About

Supervision with me

I believe that supervision should not just support with caseload review and clinical excellence but also facilitate your personal and professional growth. As there is no one ‘correct’ way to do supervision, I use a collaborative approach with a focus on a relationship built on trust and a shared understanding of the purpose of supervision. I offer flexibility to match the demands in your professional and personal life to ensure that supervision stays meaningful and beneficial to you, Therefore, I offer a combination of supervision, mentorship and coaching to meet your needs – whether it is discussing your clinical caseload, how to maintain your professional identity or your future career aspirations.

Over the past 25 years, I have been privileged to supervise occupational therapy staff in the services I developed and managed – from occupational therapy assistants, newly qualified occupational therapists to experienced clinicians. I understand how difficult it can be to articulate the value occupational therapy brings and the frustration when other people in the team do not fully grasp the value of occupational therapy for the clients we work with.

On a personal level I have always valued the protected space and time monthly supervision offers to reflect, learn, problem-solve, and maintain my own mental health. Specifically, I have learned from experience that supervision is particularly useful during periods of transition and helped me manage periods of stress and uncertainty, ensuring that I can confidently and safely collaborate with my clients. I am passionate to support colleagues in the same way.

I have expertise and professional skills in the following areas:

  • Developing and Managing services

  • Occupational Formulation and Measurable Goal Setting

  • Articulating Occupational Therapy and outcomes

  • Service development and evaluation

  • General mental health, including anxiety and depression

  • Trauma and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Veteran’s Mental health

  • Eating Disorders

  • Personality Disorders

  • Client-centred and Occupation-Focused Therapy

  • Group development and facilitation

  • Independent Practice

  • Sensory Modulation

Through regular supervision you can expect to:

  • Build your clinical and professional skills and meet your professional requirements under the HCPC competency standards.

  • Reflect on your journey as a therapist – where you have come from, the skills you bring and where you would like your journey to take you next.

  • Build your resilience and manage emotional fatigue to protect your mental health whilst you are helping others through your career.

  • Reflect on your own occupational balance and the importance of this in your personal and professional life.

  • Increase professional excellence and your fulfilment as an occupational therapist.

If you decide that you want to take up supervision, we can set up regular times to meet your needs. Most people find one-hour monthly session the most beneficial as it helps to ensure continuity and gives maximum support. I have some flexibility to offer late afternoon appointments as I know that it is sometimes difficult to fit into your day. Within London and East Surrey, I can offer in-person sessions if preferred, otherwise we can set up online sessions.
